CVE-2026-92390
Publication date 14 October 2026
Last updated 14 October 2026
Ubuntu priority
Description
When invoked with `--remote-header-name` (`-J`), curl fails to preserve its documented anti-clobbering protection if an intermediate 103 Early Hints response precedes the final HTTP response, or if an `ETag` header is processed before `Content-Disposition` under `--etag-save`. This flaw allows an HTTP(S) server to overwrite an existing local file specified in the `Content-Disposition` header despite the presence of the `-J` non-overwrite constraint.

Notes
charlescochran
Jammy and noble refuse -J together with -i or -I, which the attack needs, so they aren't affected. Nonetheless, focal and older are probably still vulnerable (as their CVE-2020-8177 backport disallows -i but not -I), but the upstream patch will not apply at all to these. Rather than disallow -i, changing behavior and risking a regression, let's ignore on focal and older.
